New Readers

Welcome to Jorge Camoes’ Charts. This is a blog where I write about the use of charts and other visual representations of data, mainly in the context of business information and the use of Excel as the primary tool for chart design. For a more detailed discussion of what the blog is (or wants to be) please take a look at the About the Blog page.

You may want to take a look at my Demographic Dashboard. It uses a population dataset to show how you can implement a dashboard using Excel (the dashboard itself can be downloaded for free). Using this dashboard as a benchmark, I tried to design a similar one using Business Objects’ Crystal Xcelsius.

I am writing a 10 x 10 series (10 posts, 10 tips each) of very short chart design tips. Each tip will eventually be linked to a longer post where the tip is detailed.

Whenever possible, I post a how-to screencast, like how to create a population pyramid in Excel or how to create a thematic map in Excel.

Please feel free to comment or send me a message to charts at jorgecamoes.com.
